Pogănișului river meadow (Pogăniciului river meadow) is a protected area of national interest which corresponds to category IV IUCN (botanical natural reservation) situated in the Timis County, on the administrative territory of communes Sacoșu Turcesc and Tormac. It was declared protected area by law No.5 of March 6 th 2000 ( regrading the National Landscaping Plan - Section III - protected areas.)
Pogănișul is one of the few south-east affluents of river Timiș ; the river drains an important surface of hill area south to Buziaș. Practically, it is a little creek, which almost goes dry in summer. With a river bed quite clearly defined, downstream the locality Cadar to Otvești, on a distance of approximately 8 km, it divides into several branches, situated at a distance up to 1.5 km from one another, resulting into flood prone area, with excessive humidity.
Because the area is not favourable to agriculture, there have been preserved lots of groves and forest bodies, mainly oak, ash, locust, poplar trees, which enhance the originality of the area.
Pogănișului river meadow - natural reservation occupies an area of 75.5 ha and comprises highroad plots, bushes and forest clearings where one can find growing the variegated tulip (Fritillaria meleagris) and the thorn (Ruscus aculeatus), monuments of nature.
It represents an area in the Pogăniş River basin covered in plots of trees: oak trees (Quercus robur), maple trees (Acer campestre), ash trees (Fraxinus excelsior L.), Field elm (Ulmus foliacea), hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), wild pear trees (Pyrus pyraster), wild apple trees (Malus sylvestris) and shrubs with species of dogwood (Cornus sanguinea), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) or Gladis (Acer tataricum). The natural area protects a rare species of flower known under the popular name of variegated tulip (Fritillaria meleagris).
